Posted by Phillip in : misc , 1 comment so farGreetings from the car wash. I’m sitting in my car anxiously awaiting my turn in the automatic carwash at my neighborhood Valero Gas Station when it suddenly comes to me: I have a blackberry now and I can blog from ANYWHERE.
So how pathetic is that? Well it’s not really *that* bad. It certainly seems like a worthwile way to kill time in the carwash.

Posted by Phillip in : misc , add a commentOne of my co-workers, Tim, messaged me the following this morning. It was too good not to share:
so I needed to look at the man page for ‘touch’ to do something I don’t normally do. I went to search for it on google because the formating is better to read than on a terminal. Searching for ‘man touch’ in google brought up things I wasn’t thinking about this morning.
Thanks for the morning laugh Tim.
iTunes madness January 11, 2006
Posted by Phillip in : misc , 1 comment so farSo I have probably spent a total of 4-5 hours getting all of my music in iTunes and removing all the dupes. According to iTunes, I now have 6556 songs which equates to rougly 30 GB and 17.9 days worth of unique listening. Getting rid of duplicate songs seems to be the biggest pain in the butt thusfar. I was really getting aggrivated as I was going down the list selecting songs one-by-one. But as I kept going through the list, I realized that there were quite a few false positives. So in the end I am thankful that there is not some automagic way of removing songs identified as “duplicates”. I will point out that if you happen to accidently click a song without holding down the CTRL key, you will have to start over. :(
The Family Stone January 9, 2006
Posted by Phillip in : misc , 2 commentsSo I have a serious problem with movies like this. You sit in your chair watching Law & Order and you get hit with a preview for a movie, that despite the fact that it appears to be a chick-flick, looks like it might be funny. It’s only when you get to the theatre, because you are like me and do no research on movie before you go see it, that you realize this is not some light-hearted romantic comedy. This is a drama with the occasional funny line.
Hey there little feller… December 15, 2005
Posted by Phillip in : misc , 2 commentsSo I get home yesterday and I am ready to take a nap in preparation for my midnight emergency maintenance window. I get home to find a tree sitting in a bucket of water. Andrea informs me that the tree will only last a couple of hours this way. I get the hint: Time to dig a hole.
Ever dug a hole in Stone Oak? I had exactly 3 inches of grass and topsoil. The rest was large rocks and hard clay. After two hours, a digging bar and two different types of shovels, I manage to get a hole that is around 3 feet deep. This is mostly thanks to a tip my neighbor gave me about digging a little and then filling the hole up with water and scooping out the mud/clay.
I took a picture of the tree as I left this morning:
According to my wife this tree will grow between 5 - 10 feet in a year. I don’t know what kind of tree this is, but anything to help separate us from the neighbors on that side.

Posted by Phillip in : misc , 1 comment so farOn the flip side of the spectrum, I also recently saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This is actually a remake of the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which I loved as a child. I have a feeling that loving the original messed me up my expectations for the remake. But let me just say, this was not some of Tim Burton’s best work. I thoroughly disliked this movie, but I will say, Johnny Depp plays a really good complete psycho/weirdo. I don’t remember Gene Wilder being that psychotic.
