So this is probably my last post using my DSL. I could not think of something more appropriate about which to write as I sit at my home and await the arrive of the TimeWarner technician. TimeWarner will be delivering digital cable, digital phone (yuck, I’ll get back to this in a bit), and high-speed intarweb.

This means I say goodbye to my analog phone line through SBC, my stupid ghetto-slow DSL through SBC in conjunction with Yahoo!, and my satellite tv connection through DishNetwork (btw DishNetwork and SBC are in bed with each other). To tell the truth, I really kinda like the satellite and I might miss getting 30 different channels with sports including the “classic” sport channels where they re-broadcast sporting events from the days of yore. But alas, it is time to move on and here is the reason:

DSL + Analog Phone line + Satallite = $140 - $150

whereas

RoadRunner + Digital Phone + Digital Cable = $99

Now, I realize that I will probably not get as many channels with TW, but I’m not too concerned about that. My only requirements are the following:

* NBC
* ABC
* CBS
* Fox
* WB
* History Channel
* Discovery Channel
* Disney Channel

As you can see, I’m not that picky. Getting back to the digital phone thing. I didn’t really want a phone line at all. In the world of cell phones, who really needs a phone line? Well, there are two compelling reasons to get the phone line: 1) I only get the nice shiny price if I get all three (intarweb, digital phone, cable) -and- 2) my home security system requires a phone line to dial the coppers if someone breaks in.

So I’m not too busted up about that. Oh yes, and my other compelling reason for switching to TW was the fact that they are going to throw in a PVR (OMG I was going to link to wikipedia here and just got an error: Fatal error: Call to undefined method MediaWiki::checkSetup() in /usr/local/apache/common-local/php-1.5/index.php on line 36) for free! Something I have tried to pressure DishNetwork for a long time.

So. Peace out SBC!
